Last month, the Keep Britain Tidy Network Conference & Awards brought together over 150 decision-makers from local authorities across England, sharing best practice, innovation and inspiration for improving local environments.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Chris Preston, Deputy Director of Resources Waste at DEFRA, Jim Bligh, Corporate and Public Affairs Director at Food and Drink Federation, and Dean Duke, Senior Manager of Public Affairs at Mars Wrigley spoke about a number of litter and waste issues, including where policy is headed in the next few years.
- Jenny Watts, Director of environmental experts Watts Legal, shared her insights into the Government’s commitment to reform current Waste Carriers, Brokers and Dealers licensing and what is in store for the new legislative framework controlling the transportation of waste.
- A panel including speakers from Keep Britain Tidy, Suez, CIWM, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority shared insights from two newly published pieces of research: our new annual tracker survey which provides a snapshot of where the UK public are at with waste prevention and our new in-depth, collaborative research looking at how we communicate about waste prevention - read more about this fascinating research.
- Nine local authorities were recognised for their achievements in waste prevention and sustainability, including Liverpool and Newham who were recognised for the exceptional environmental management around the hosting of last year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
